Labor Day Holiday

The Library will be closed on Monday, September 6 for the Labor Day holiday.

Works of Wonder

The North Hampton Public Library will host a literary book discussion series entitled Works of Wonder exploring the novel, short story, memoir, journal, poetry and biography focused on women writers.  UNH Professor Holly Perrault will lead the series which will begin Wednesday, September 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the library and continue for five monthly discussions, each focusing on a different writer and the issues of class, race, poverty, spirituality, and aging.  Discussions and programs are open to the public and copies of the books will be available to borrow.  The first book will be “The House of Mirth” by Edith Wharton, which deals with issues of social class in New York at the turn of the 20th Century. The Works of Wonder book group will meet in lieu of the Sunset Book Group through February. To sign up or for more information please call the library at 964-6326 or email nhpl@nhplib.org

New Programs for Fall!

North Hampton Public Library will begin showing the video series “Museum Masterpieces: The National Gallery, London” produced by The Teaching Company, starting Wednesday, September 1st at 1:00 p.m. The series is taught by Dr. Catherine B. Scallen, an Associate Professor of Art History at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Scallen earned her Ph.D. in Art History from Princeton University. The course will run 12 weeks for one hour each week. No sign up is necessary and the program is open to all who are interested. You may attend all or part of the series and drop-ins are welcome.

Tom Chase will be at North Hampton Public Library Wednesday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. to talk about his book “Ashen Skies of Vietnam,” a novel based on his experiences flying combat support missions in Vietnam. Chase flew 467 missions in a Lockheed C-130 Hercules and then left the Air Force to fly as a commercial pilot for TWA for 25 years. Harrowing experiences of landing and take-off are integrated into the novel along with a love story involving Clay Evans the main character. Chase will bring copies of his book for those who would like to purchase a signed copy.  For more information call the library at 964.6326.

Audio books and eBooks are available for free! Click on the Download Audio Books Overdrive icon in the column to your left.

Practice tests can be taken in such areas as the SAT, Real Estate, PRAXIS, Nursing, MCAT, Paramedic, LSAT, GRE, GED, GMAT. Click on the Learning Express light bulb in the column to your left. Once there you can also learn/practice computer skills (Word, Excel etc) with our new self paced Computer Skills tutorials.
